Last week my wife took our van in for an oil change. Part way through the servicing, my wife called me in a panic because she had just been informed by the person doing the servicing that “the brake fluid had turned to gel, and that the transmission was dry”, and that we needed to service both components right away to avoid major damage. My wife was told that if both jobs were done right then, the labour charges would be waived, and it would only cost us $190. I told her to tell you NO, since there was no way either diagnosis could be true.
I am a licensed mechanic, and checked both components later that day -- both were the right colour, consistency and level. In other words, perfect.
These guys were just trying to play on my wife's fears about a major breakdown, and rip us off in the process.
